Roberto was reported missing to Chatham County deputies at about 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 7th.
The moments leading upto Roberto’s disappearance include him riding personal watercraft with a friend. After a while, Roberto’s watercraft started exhibiting some mechanical issues.
The issues disabled the vehicle to the point that it had to be shut off. Roberto’s friend returned to the shore to get a rope that would help pull the disabled vehicle back to shore.
Roberto’s life took a 360-degree turn during the time his friend went back to the shore. Upon returning, the teen’s friend could not find him anywhere.
The friend looked around meticulously but failed to find Roberto, and he went back and broke the unfortunate news to the teen’s family.
Roberto’s family then filed a missing person report. In the report, they mentioned that a life vest was found next to Roberto’s disabled watercraft.
The authorities started looking for the missing teen immediately after they received the report. The search began at the Farrington Point Boat Ramp at 605 Farrington Point Road.
Authorities launched a water search and a search of the shoreline. They have used boats, drones, and other equipment in the investigation.
Search crews continued to scour Jordan Lake on Wednesday, March 8th. The search continued into the evening but was suspended for darkness at about 6:10 p.m. Crews were instructed to resume searching Thursday morning around 6:30 a.m.
The family and friends of Roberto are devastated upon hearing this news. They continuously pray for his safe return and hope for a miracle to occur.
“This is a difficult time for the family, especially not knowing what happened,” said Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson. “We have multiple resources working on this, and we’re doing everything we can to locate the missing teenager and provide his family with answers.”
Robert’s pastor, Ricardo Correa, was trying to hold family and friends together for the best possible outcome.
A helicopter was also deployed in the search, and a dog was brought out and “sniffed” four-five potential search areas. However, those areas were too large for search crews to focus on.
A family member said the sheriff’s office told them that the probability of Roberto being in the woods was too low.
Robert’s family said he was last seen with no shirt, no shoes, and black shorts.
